Zablon Mokua’s nomination to East African Court docket of Justice blocked


The Excessive Court docket has blocked the nomination of Zablon Muruka Mokua as a choose of the East African Court docket of Justice (EACJ).

This comes after Dr Mokua’s choice was challenged by the Legislation Society of Kenya (LSK).

The LSK challenged the nomination of Dr Mokua arguing that he doesn’t qualify for the publish.

Whereas making the ruling, Justice Lawrence Mugambi stated the LSK had demonstrated that the petition was more likely to be rendered ineffective, as Dr Mokua was more likely to be endorsed by the Summit of the Heads of State of the East African Group (EAC).

Dr Mokua, who served as an MCA for Basi Central Ward in Kisii County from 2017 to 2022 was nominated on April 18, 2024 by East African Group Cupboard Secretary Peninah Malonza to switch Justice Charles Nyachae who resigned in January.

However the LSK has challenged his nomination arguing that he’s not a jurist of recognised competence value being nominated as a choose and the Judicial Service Fee (JSC) was not concerned within the strategy of his nomination.
