Addis Ababa — Former Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs on the U.S. Division of State, Tibor Nagy rebuffed Cairo and Asmara’s repeated statements that solely littoral states maintain authority over Crimson Sea maritime safety and governance.
Ambassador Nagy argued that if as Egypt and Eritrea say solely littoral states have something to say about Crimson Sea, then logically solely nations which put water into the Nile can decide its use.
The US diplomat and Professor wrote: “So if as Egypt and Eritrea say solely littoral states have something to say about Crimson Sea, then logically solely nations which put water into the Nile can decide its use”.
The diplomat’s comment addresses the stance of decrease riparian downstream nations that search to affect upstream water developments whereas concurrently trying to exclude non-coastal nations from Crimson Sea maritime safety discussions.
