The Chairperson of the African Union Fee, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, strongly condemns the terrorist assault carried out on 18 June 2026 in opposition to the Worldwide Airport of Niamey within the Republic of Niger.
The Chairperson extends his honest condolences to the households of the victims, in addition to to the authorities and other people of Niger, and desires a speedy restoration to these injured.
He commends the swift response of the Nigerien Defence and Safety Forces, whose actions helped repel the assault and safe the airport amenities.
The Chairperson reaffirms the solidarity of the African Union with the Republic of Niger within the struggle in opposition to terrorism and violent extremism, and reiterates the African Union’s dedication to supporting efforts geared toward preserving peace, safety and stability throughout the continent.
