Pretoria – Fifty-two-year-old police captain, Johannes Daniel Jansen van Rensberg, has appeared earlier than the Pretoria Justice of the Peace’s Court docket on expenses of fraud value R4million and theft value R1 million.

Van Rensberg, who’s hooked up to the finance part of the Safety and Safety Service (PSS), appeared in courtroom on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, and was granted bail of R50 000.

Allegations are that between March 2024 and March 2026, JVan Rensberg allegedly used his entry to the finance system to control the system and unlawfully withdraw cash.

The accused allegedly “booked out” money for himself underneath the disguise that the cash was meant for travelling bills for shut protectors hooked up to PPS.

Nevertheless, after a suspicious transaction was detected on the system by the finance division, an inner investigation was performed by the Monetary Administration Companies.

A case was opened towards the accused, and he was arrested on Easter Monday, 6 April 2026, at his place of residence.

Throughout bail proceedings, the State didn’t oppose the discharge of the accused.

An affidavit by the Investigating Officer, Constable Byron Andrews, indicated that the accused has no earlier convictions or pending circumstances, will not be thought-about a flight danger, and is unlikely to intrude with investigations or public order.

The matter has been postponed to 30 July 2026 for additional investigations
