Abuja — The Nigerian Military has been recognised as Africa’s Greatest Nationwide Military in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Safety Watch, in recognition of its distinctive operational achievements, strategic management and unwavering dedication to combating terrorism and violent extremism throughout Nigeria.
In line with an announcement by the Performing Director of Military Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the award underscored the Nigerian Military’s emergence as Africa’s main drive in Counter-Terrorism and Counter-Insurgency Operations (CTCOIN).
It mirrored years of sustained, intelligence-driven operations which have considerably degraded terrorist networks, restored safety to affected communities and contributed to regional peace and stability.
The distinguished award was formally offered to the Chief of Military Workers (COAS), Lieutenant Basic Waidi Shaibu, on the Military Headquarters, Abuja, by Main Basic Teriworie Gagariga, who had earlier obtained it on behalf of the Nigerian Military in the course of the African Safety Watch Awards Ceremony in Banjul, The Gambia.
